District 62, comprised of Branson, Branson West, Hollister, Indian Point, Kimberling City, ReedsSpring, and Silver Dollar City, is one of Missouri’s largest sales tax producing Districts, and Taney County ranks third in the production of state sales tax revenue. Our tourist industry is a major source of this tax income. Tourism is good for both District 62 and the entire state.
In past years, when our state budget was in complete disarray, our representatives voted to cut tourism funding. As a successful long time small business owner, one of the many things I have learned is you do not cut your core business; you do not minimize the things that are proftable. Tourism funding must be maintained and enhanced.
As your state representative, I will not vote to cut tourism funding as some have done in the past. I will continue to see that tourism, one of the largest industries in Missouri, is funded according to its importance to District 62 and the state.
“As one of the top sales tax producing Districts in the State, I intend to make sure there are no more missed opportunities to insure that tourism funding is not only maintained but enhanced, and that our District receives adequate funding for needed roads and bridges.”
Our District has missed opportunities for fully funding roads and bridges. Our substantial influence, gained through the growing amount of tax revenue we produce, should result in additional dollars for highway improvements and much needed bridge expansion and repairs. When Springfield gets million dollars for a third lane on highway 65, while our customers and employees are stuck in traffic on Highway and the Kimberling City Bridge, or while local people are expected to pay for the new Taneycomo Bridge, I have a problem. As your state representative, I will fight for the state funding that we need and deserve. My business and community experience in Stone and Taney County reflect my leadership skills, my ability to work with a broad base of people, and my desire to work across county lines with different communities and organizations with respect and trust. Above all, my many years of personal involvement with friends, neighbors, employees, and local citizens demonstrate that I am willing and able to listen and make decisions that are in the best interest of the 62nd District and Missouri.
